Convent A 54 POM Anya Le Monnier (Centre) v St Lawrence A 40 POM Sarah Ribeiro (GK)
Defending Champions took control of the game from the onset, but could never relax as St Lawrence A (Runners up last year) displayed grit and determination in their play. The battle between the two centres, Anya Le Monnier (Convent's POM) and Michelle Nelson (Captain of St Lawrence) was exhausting to watch as both defended un relentlessly throughout the entire 60 minutes. Both teams executed some fast and furious moves down the court, showing fitness and precision worthy of a top first division challenge.
This win for Convent A takes them near to the top of the table, but the superior goal difference of their fellow B team denies them the 'top spot'.
Convent B 37 POM Paige Lawson (Centre) v Convent C 23 POM Sophie Harvey (GS)
Convent's B side were too strong for their C, Paige Lawson showed agility and athleticism in her covering of the court. Sophie Harvey (GS) has claimed her second POM this season, as she displayed a superb awareness of her space in the attacking circle, converting vital goals for her team to allow them to obtain the half score point.
Far too early to glean anything from the tables as Accies A, who are sitting bottom of the first division have had, probably their two toughest fixtures to kick off their season, hence the reason for the two defeats. This is definitely a team to keep an eye on!
St Lawrence C 28 POM Maddy Fitzgerald Wilkins (GA) v St Lawrence D 29 POM Jill Luce (GD) & Jackie Pannenborg (GK)
This was an inter club match that did not go according to plan.
The D's tall 'defence duo' of Jill Luce GD and Jackie Pannenborg GK proved to be too intimidating for the young St Lawrence C shooters. The D team took the lead from the start and held it right to the bitter end, warding off continual onslaught from their club members. Third quarter score line had one goal separating two sides 21 (D) - 20 (C) and this is how the final phase went, with the final whistle giving the D team a 29 - 28 victory. Maddy Fitzgerald Wilkins POM for the C is a player to watch for the future. Newly signed on from Wales, only just come up from Youth Netball, she shows poise and confidence beyond her years.
St Clement B 32 POM Joni Gorman (C) v Convent D 44 POM Evie James WA
Both of these teams were relegated last season and the encounter was keenly contested. Saints fielded a completely new line up, giving some young faces a chance to prove themselves. However Convent D proved to be just a cut above, holding off all attempts to take the lead. Convent D held the control lever from start to finish 9-8, 20-18, 34-25 and 44-32. Some very exciting youngsters coming through the ranks for Convent.
St Ouen A 42 POM Lucy Hillsden GS v St Saviour B 16 POM Rebecca Morris C
St Ouen's GS Lucy Hillsden claimed her second POM award this season for her outstanding shooting. St Saviour B struggled to keep up with the attacking supremacy of the west side and the dominating effects of the dominating defence.
St Brelade B 42 POM Nicola de Jesus GA v St Clement F 12 POM Sophie Gorman C
St Brelade had a tentative start to this encounter, just necking ahead 6-5 at the first break. However they found their form and forged ahead clocking up a more comfortable score at the halftime 19-9. The St Brelade defenceHolly Bertram and Leah McInerney were ruthless in the next 15 minutes, repeatedly denying St Ouen any chance of a come back without a single goal being scored. At the opposite end, Nicola de Jesus, GA for St Brelade, was on a roll and just could not fail to net the ball helping her team mates to a resounding victory of 42 - 12.
