The Jersey U11 squads had a great day at the Western Park Blades tournament in Southampton with Jersey Reds finishing 4th overall and Jersey Whites 7th out of the 15 teams that competed. Some fantastic netball played by all these youngsters who were a credit to our island.

What a fantastic evening of mixed netball! There was a good mix of new and experienced teams - amazing how quickly new players and teams pick up the rules.
Group 1 1st: Facepainters Ink 2nd: Hampshire Hawks 3rd: Aztec 4th: Kaos 5th: First Names Group 6th: Alter Domus 7th: Intertrust Group 8th: Coutts Group 2 1st: M&Ms 2nd: Rastas 3rd: Le Rocq Sportif 4th: PwC Firehawks 5th: Sanne Superstars 6th: PS1 7th: KPMG 8th: Langham Hall Stars Well done to St Clement Ladies who won the opening game of the Uptons v Guernsey 42-36! In a well contested and close match St Clement's Ladies showed they had the upper hand with their great on court teamwork. With the opposition fighting back in the last quarter St Clements kept their heads to maintain their lead! St Clements Ladies 12,23,37,42 Nerine Thunder 8,17,26,36 Accies B sadly lost their match 41-45 to Nerine Thunder B. It was a closely contested game despite the fact that Accies were always chasing until they took the first 2 goals at the start of the final quarter. However even with the crowd behind them they couldn't continue to capitalise and lost possession in and around the shooting circle loosing ground and then had too much to do in the closing minutes. Accies B 9,20,33,41 Nerine Thunder B 12,22,34,45 The last match was between the Division One winners and it was Convent A who won the trophy 81-38. The game was close in the opening minutes with both sides battling for possession, but Convent A didnt take long to warm up and then put in a great display pulling away to a fantastic lead against Nerine Thunder B who seemed powerless to stop them. Convent A 20,38,59,81 Nerine Titans 13,24,27,38 Well done to everyone involved. Thank you to Amie Le Beuvant, Tammy Fage and Lauren Arthur for umpiring and to Ann Halliwell and Jackie Pannenbourg for scoring all day and to those who manned the flip chart.
Congratulations to Tallula Norman and Libby Rothwell who have been selected into the U17 Team Bath long squad!
Well done to all the victorious Champs teams who beat the best of the rest of their respective division tonight. This night of netball has become an annual warm up for the Uptons which this year are on Sunday where the Champs face the equivalent Guernsey Divisional Champions.
Thank you to the managers of The Rest, players, umpires and Magic Touch who sponsor the trophies for Division Two and Three. Day 2 in this unusual Interinsular programme sees all the youth teams play although there is sadly no U19 fixture this year as the hosts could not put out a team. Under 16s Jersey U16s put in a strong performance against Guernsey and really pull ahead from the second quarter in which they show their hunger for the ball and only concede 1 goal. Guernsey 8,9,12,16 Jersey 12,25,39,53 - POM Abbie Le Marquand (C) Under 11s The Under 11s had a close start with both sides scoring 4 goals in the opening 15 minutes. However with lots of interceptions it was Jersey who took the upper hand in the second quarter and despite the 3rd quarter score being level Jersey finished out the match ahead of the hosts. Guernsey 4,6,9,13 Jersey 4,11,15,20 - POMs Lottie Leatt and Florence Tanguy Under 12s The Under 12 match started with a very low scoring quarter as both teams gained lots of turnovers throughout the court. However it was Guernsey who lead the match if only just, and pulled away to secure their first win of the day. Guernsey 2,8,14,18 Jersey 1,7,8,13 - POM Cerys O'Connell (GK) Under 14s Another closely fought match saw Guernsey win with a flurry of goals at the end.
Guernsey 5,12,21,29 Jersey 4,11,17,24 With Team Jets playing away tomorrow it was the Open A match that closes Day 1 which comprised of the Senior matches in a change to the normal schedule. Open B Jersey had a great start after taking the first 7 goals! With excellent shooting allowing them to capitalise on turnovers Jersey dominated for the whole opening quarter. Jersey continued to then lead though Guernsey really upped the pressure with 3 goals in the second quarter scoreline, but they couldn’t maintain this display in the third quarter as Jersey shut down their attacking plays to take a very strong win. Guernsey 4, 14, 18, 27 Jersey 13, 26, 38, 52 POM Jersey's Nicole Goddard. Over 30s With an exceptionally strong start Jersey gained a great lead in the opening quarter, however changes at quarter time notably GA Verona Tomlin taking to the court, saw a change in the Guernsey sides dynamics and left them winning by one going in at half time. Guernsey then ran away with it in the 3rd quarter leaving too much for Jersey to do. Jersey never gave up however and put in a fabulous team performance. The final quarter being a draw. Guernsey 6, 22, 41, 48 Jersey 12, 21, 29, 36 Open A With an outstanding first quarter from both teams Jersey take a narrow lead into the break before pushing ahead in a well contested but physical second quarter. The third quarter saw Guernsey fighting back with interceptions from both sides across the court. Jersey however maintain their lead to win 40 v 45.
Guernsey 8,19,29,40 Jersey 9,24,34,45 |
